JAYAPURA - Papua Police Chief Irjen Mathius Fakhiri said armed criminal groups (KKB) currently operating around Puncak District are suspected of possessing 70 firearms of various types.

"Some of the firearms were obtained from the spoils of TNI-Polri personnel, while the number of KKB members and their sympathizers was about 150 people," Irjen Fakhiri said in Jayapura quoted by Antara, Friday, May 21.

Currently, the crackdown efforts in Puncak Regency are carried out at several points which are the headquarters of the group.

Makki Village is now reachable and members conduct searches so that the KKB shifts. TNI-Polri personnel in Puncak Jaya Regency are asked to be vigilant and alert because they are expected to go to villages in the area.

"I and Pangdam XVII Cenderawasih have discussed it and asked everyone to be on standby," said Irjen Fakhiri.

He asked the ranks of Papuan Police personnel who served in vulnerable areas to improve preparedness.

In addition, members are trying to separate the KKB group from civilians in several areas in Puncak Regency.

"Kkb around Ilaga comes from Puncak Jaya, Pilia, Sugapa, Paniai, Kuyawage and Lanny Jaya," said the Papua Police Chief.
