Russia Urges US To Clarify Trump's Statement On Nuclear Trials That Make Many Countries Noise

JAKARTA - Russia asked the United States to clarify the latest statement by US President Donald Trump about the possible resumption of nuclear tests. Clarification is considered important because the move will trigger a serious response from other countries.

A spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, delivered the statement at a press conference in Moscow on Friday, November 7.

Trump last week ordered the US military to immediately restart the nuclear weapons test process after being suspended for 33 years.

However, it is unclear whether Trump referred to a test of the nuclear explosive, which would be carried out by the National Nuclear Security Agency (NSA), or a test flight of nuclear-capable missiles.

Given the lack of clarity surrounding the US plan, President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday instructed top officials to prepare proposals for Russia to conduct its own potential nuclear test in response to US trials.

Moscow has not carried out nuclear tests since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Russia and the US have the largest nuclear arsenal in the world.
