DPR Asks Police To Investigate 279 Million Leaked Indonesians' Data

JAKARTA - Pks Dpr RI Faction member Bukhori Yusuf highlighted the case of 279 million Indonesian population data that was allegedly leaked and sold on the Raid Forum hacker forum. From monitoring on social media Twitter, one of the accounts mentioned that the data allegedly belongs to the Health Social Security Administration.

Bukhori asserts, personal data is a human right that must be maintained as stated in the 1945 Constitution. In Article 28 G paragraph (1) of the 1945 Constitution mentioned, everyone is entitled to personal protection, and is entitled to a sense of security and protection from the threat of fear to do or not do something that is a human right.

According to the members of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives, the leakage of personal data can not be interpreted as a personal incident that befalls citizens.

"This is a form of cyber threat to our national interest, considering that the data leak is suspected to befall one of the state agencies and potentially cause significant systemic losses," Bukhori said Friday, May 21.

Based on research titled Global Digital Reports 2020, as many as 64 percent of Indonesians are connected to the internet. However, the massive use of the internet is not balanced with adequate regulation of internet user data protection.

Meanwhile, the State Cyber and Password Agency noted that throughout 2020 there have been 2,549 cases of theft of information through electronic mail for criminal purposes. Then there were 79,439 accounts whose data was compromised.

"This fact shows the urgency of the presence of policies that protect internet users. One of them is through the ratification of the personal data protection bill," Bukhori said.

Members of the House of Representatives baleg explained, related to data protection regulations, a number of regions in the world have implemented the policy. One of them is the European Union with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). It standardizes data protection laws in all EU member states and implements strict new rules for controlling and processing personally identifiable information.

This regulation covers the protection of personal data as well as the right to data protection by giving back control to citizens. The regulatory direction of this regulation includes individuals, companies, and organizations that process a person's personal data.

Therefore, the MCC politician asked the police to investigate the parties who deliberately leaked and traded the personal data. Because, he said, the incident has the potential to cause significant losses from material and immaterial aspects.

"In material terms, we can note that there is a lot of misuse of data for fictitious transactions, such as online loans that result in losses for those whose data is stolen. Not only that, in terms of imateril, it is very clear that this data leak makes us wary," he said.

"Not infrequently, some victims experience obstacles to access public services, such as the creation of NPWP, because their personal data has been used by others without their knowledge," he continued.

Bukhori also encouraged all stakeholders involved to be investigated immediately.

"If proven as a result of negligence, I ask to be acted immediately in accordance with the applicable law because it is proven to harm other parties," said the legislator dapil Central Java.

Previously, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) immediately intervened and investigated the case of leakage of Indonesian Identity Card (KTP) data on internet forums. Moreover, 279 million of the data is suspected to come from BPJS Kesehatan and traded.

"The Ministry of Communication and Information is deepening the alleged data leak," Said Ministry of Information Spokesman Dedy Permadi in a brief message on Thursday, May 20.

The data leak began to be known after the account @ndagels tweeted at least 279 million data belonging to Indonesian citizens (WNI) sold by hackers. Data leak includes not only Residence Number (NIK) but also status of life or death up to salary.
