Police Arrest Mother Abused Child To Death In Jember

Police officers arrested IG (37) who abused his biological mother named Susiati (62) until she died at her home in Kertonegoro Village, Jember Regency, East Java.

"The incident began when the victim (mother) came to the house of her daughter IG who was next to her house to deliver food in Kertonegoro Village, Jenggawah District on Tuesday (4/11) night," said Jenggawah Police Chief AKP Eko Basuki as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 5.

The victim reprimanded his son for not participating in the tahlil event commemorating the seventh day of his grandfather's death, so that it made the suspect angry and hit his mother many times, even using a retreading iron (tire patch) to persecute his mother to death.

"The victim's neighbors tried to secure the perpetrator and report the incident to the Jenggawah Police, who then the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit and members managed to arrest the perpetrators," he said.

He explained that the suspect's motive for killing the victim was that he was upset because the suspect was often scolded by the victim who was also his biological mother.

From the results of the crime scene (TKP), the police secured a retreading device, suspect's ID card, two cell phones belonging to the suspect and one red swab as evidence in the case of severe abuse.

"Based on information from families and local residents, the perpetrator is suspected of having serious depression after divorcing his wife. A few days before the incident, his behavior was known to be unstable and often spoke to himself," he said.

Therefore, the police will conduct further examinations with health workers to ensure the mental condition of the perpetrator who had the heart to persecute his biological mother until she died.

For his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 338 of the Criminal Code concerning murder or subsidiary Article 351 Paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code concerning persecution that resulted in death, with a maximum threat of 15 years in prison.
