Prabowo Agrees That The Poor Can Get Direct Job Training

JAKARTA - The government is preparing a new program to accelerate extreme poverty alleviation in Indonesia. One of them is through direct job training for the heads of extreme poor families so that they can be absorbed into the world of work.

Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment (Menko PM) Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) said the program had been approved by President Prabowo Subianto and would be part of the strategy to empower the extreme poor.

"The President has agreed, the heads of extreme poor families will be trained for a maximum of four months for those interested in working as security guards, agricultural staff, and cleaning services. After training, they will be immediately absorbed by employers," said Cak Imin in Sabilulangan Dome, Bandung Regency, Wednesday, November 5.

In addition to job training, the government will also distribute the land produced by agrarian reforms to extreme poor families. Muhaimin explained that the land returned to the state will be prioritized for the people in the agricultural sector so that it can be used productively.

This program, continued Cak Imin, is expected to create economic independence for extreme poor families, especially in rural areas that still depend on the agricultural sector.

"The lands re-controlled by the country, which amounts to millions of hectares, will be prioritized for extreme poor families in agriculture. We know, about 49 percent of the extreme poor are in the agricultural sector," he said.

The entire extreme poverty alleviation program will be based on the National Sole Social Economic Data (DTSEN) so that the implementation in the field is more targeted.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of extreme poor people in Indonesia still reaches 2.38 million people. The government targets this figure to decrease to 0 percent by 2026.
