Suharto In The Debate Of The Hero Title, Puan Maharani Asks For Comprehensive Education

JAKARTA - The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, responded to the matter of pros and cons of giving the title of national hero to the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia, Suharto.

According to him, the proposed awarding of the title must be carefully studied, including the track record and contribution of the figure in question from the first to the present.

"Yes, we respect the awarding of the title of hero, but because this is important, it must be observed in its track record from the past to the present," said Puan during a press conference at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, November 4.

According to Puan, a comprehensive study is very important to do to determine whether the title is worthy of being given at this time or waiting for the right time.

"Because it is also important how then whether it is the time and needs to be given, and so on. Of course, it must be studied properly and carefully," explained Puan.

Previously, Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf alias Gus Ipul proposed 40 names of figures to get the title of national hero to Fadli Zon as Chairman of the Council for Titles, Services, and Honors (GTK), on Tuesday, October 2.

Among the proposed names are the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia Soeharto, the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia Abdurrahman Wahid alias Gus Dur, and Marsinah labor activists.
