75 Couples Undergo Inaugural IVF Program In South Sumatra

PALEMBANG - A total of 75 married couples successfully underwent the inaugural IVF program in South Sumatra as a result of the initiation of a group of fertility expert doctors. This program collaborates with Siloam Sriwijaya Hospital Palembang.

Fertility Consultant Education Coordinator as initiator Dr. dr. Rizani Amran said the success rate of ivf procedures was initially only 43 percent, but had increased to 63 percent by April 2021.

"The ivf program in South Sumatra is only in Palembang, but it can serve the community from all over South Sumatra," he was quoted as saying by Antara, Thursday, May 20.

According to him, the IVF program in South Sumatra, which was initiated since 2010, can only be realized today because the planning process faces many obstacles, ranging from human resources to regulations including finding partner hospitals.

He considers the success of the IVF program to be a fresh wind for people in South Sumatra who have difficulty getting offspring due to infertility or fertility problems.

Because so far many infertility couples from South Sumatra do IVF programs in other provinces even abroad so that it costs higher.

Meanwhile, people experiencing infertility in South Sumatra are estimated to reach 10 percent of the total 8.6 million people.

"But keep in mind the success rate of the IVF program also depends on age, it is better to immediately detect fertility problems, the younger the better," he said.

Meanwhile, Director of Siloam Sriwijaya Hospital Palembang dr. Bona Fernando said, the average ivf program patient is 30-35 years old with the oldest patient who has succeeded aged 41 years.

"Among the successful ones there are now pregnant twins," she said.

The company itself opened a ivf program at BlastulalIVF Clinic of Siloam Sriwijaya Hospital Jalan POM IX Palembang with a cost of around Rp60 million for the entire procedural.
