JAKARTA - The revitalization work of Giri Kencana Reservoir in Cilangkap Village, Cipayung District, East Jakarta, continues. Until the 20th week, the physical progress has reached 54.6 percent of the total work.

However, this achievement is still below the target which should have reached 62.2 percent. This means that there is a deviation of around 7.6 percent of the implementation schedule.

"According to the schedule (schedule), the realization should have been 62.2 percent, but only 54.6 percent have been achieved. There is a deviation of around 7.6 percent," said Head of the East Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-dept. Development Section, Tengku Saugi Zikri, when confirmed in Jakarta, Sunday.

Saugi explained that the 4.5 hectare reservoir revitalization project began in early June 2025 through the e-catalog auction system and is targeted for completion by the end of December 2025.

"We have asked third parties to accelerate so that the flood prevention infrastructure can be completed on time," he said.

The scope of work includes dredging the land, construction of a gabion sheet pile (a woven steel wire containing stone), and structuring the area around the reservoir. Currently, the work of gabions and ramps has been completely completed, while the construction of parks, public facilities, and architectural elements is still ongoing.

Some of the facilities that will be available in this area include the Cipayung SDA Satpel office, prayer room, basketball field, power house, jogging track, cycle track, viewing deck, amphitheater, outdoor gym, gazebo, and playground.

The Giri Kencana Reservoir will also experience a significant increase in depth, from two meters to six meters. Later, this reservoir will accommodate water flow from the Cilangkap Liaison Channel (Phb), with a capacity of almost three times higher.

"Initially it was only 35,749 cubic meters, up almost threefold to 92,225 cubic meters," said Saugi.

This project was carried out by the third winner of the e-catalog auction, with financing from the DKI Jakarta APBD amounting to Rp56.1 billion.

In addition to the flood control function, the Giri Kencana Reservoir will also be developed as a green space and public recreation. Areas around the reservoir will be planted with various types of ornamental plants and protective trees such as bougenville, elephant ears, asoka, tabebuya, flamboyan, mahogany, and fan cypresses, as well as various water plants such as lotus, water jasmine, bawl water, and canna water.

Through a combination of ecological and aesthetic functions, the Giri Kencana Reservoir is expected to become a new green open space that is not only useful for flood control, but also to beautify the face of the Cilangkap area.
