JAKARTA - The Provincial Government of South Kalimantan (Kalsel) through the South Kalimantan Provincial Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) handled landslides that occurred on the Banjarbaru (Batulicin) highway.

Acting Head of the South Kalimantan PUPR (Kadis) Office, M. Yasin Toyib, said emergency handling was carried out to ensure traffic flow remained safe and under control after the landslide that hit the area.

"So we have done emergency handling by hoarding landslides and installing traffic signs so that people who pass by can be careful," he said in Banjarbaru, Friday, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to Yasin, the South Kalimantan PUPR team was immediately dispatched to the location to ensure field conditions and take initial action in the form of hoarding and installing traffic signs. This step is carried out as a temporary handling while waiting for the design of a permanent repair plan.

"Meanwhile, our handling is installing traffic signs to alert road users. After that, we will continue with improving the slope structure to make it more stable," he explained.

He added that the position of the soil in the avalanche area will also be tilted so that the flow of water does not go directly to the canal and worsens erosion.

The technical handling was carried out while still coordinating with the Forestry Service, considering that some of the land around the landslide point was in a forestry area and was close to residential areas.

"We are still coordinating with friends in the forestry for handling permits, because in addition to the location there is a hut owned by residents and part of the land belongs to the forestry," Yasin added.

In addition to hoarding landslide points, the South Kalimantan PUPR has also prepared a permanent drainage construction to repair the water flow system around the location. Currently heavy equipment is in the field to strengthen the soil structure and prevent further landslides.

"The tool is already in the field. Currently, we focus on hoarding areas that are prone to landslides again, while waiting for permanent work such as repairing slopes and construction of drainage," he said.

In addition to handling landslides, the South Kalimantan PUPR is also completing the work of the Regional Road Inpres (IJD) on the Gunung Papua and Kelok 12 sections. After the project is completed, then a comprehensive traffic sign is installed so that the arrangement is more effective and does not overlap with construction work.

"We want the work to be effective. So we first complete the work of the IJD, then install the signs so that they are not wasted," concluded Yasin
