JAKARTA - Israeli planes and tanks hit areas in eastern Gaza, a day after Israel declared it committed to a US-backed ceasefire.
As reported by Reuters on Thursday, October 30, eyewitnesses said Israeli aircraft launched 10 airstrikes in the eastern region of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, while tanks opened fire on the eastern region of Gaza City in the north.
No injuries or deaths were reported.
The Israeli military said it launched an "presidency" attack on "terrorist infrastructure that threatens troops" in Israeli-occupied territories.
Thursday's attack is the latest test for a fragile ceasefire that took effect on October 10 in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Witnesses in Gaza said they did not see attacks outside Israeli-controlled territory.
From Tuesday to Wednesday, Israel retaliated for the death of an Israeli soldier with a bombing that Gaza's health authorities said killed 104 people.
Israel said the army was killed in attacks by gunmen in an area called the "yellow line" where its troops withdrew based on a ceasefire. Hamas has denied the allegations.
The Israeli military released a list of 26 militants claimed to have been the target of the bombing earlier this week, including one name claimed to be Hamas commander who participated in the October 7, 2023 attacks in southern Israel that sparked war.

Gaza's Ministry of Health said 46 children and 20 women were among the 104 people killed in the airstrikes.
Sources close to international efforts to maintain a ceasefire said the US and regional mediators immediately intervened to restore calm as Israel and Hamas blamed each other.
