Pressing Private Vehicles Entering Jakarta, Pramono Asks Bodetabek Regional Heads To Prepare Park And Ride

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung invited regents and mayors throughout Jabodetabek in a coordination meeting of regional heads to discuss an integrated transportation system in the Jakarta area and its surroundings.

During the meeting, Pramono asked regional heads in Bogor, Bekasi, Depok, Tangerang, and South Tangerang to provide parks and rides in their respective regions.

"We propose the Park and ride for this, which is provided by local areas, because this is their parking space and of course there will be revenue for parking and so on," Pramono said after a meeting at the City Hall of DKI Jakarta, Wednesday, October 29.

This Park and ride, according to Pramono, is needed to facilitate residents in buffer areas who operate every day in Jakarta. They are expected to no longer use private vehicles to Jakarta and switch to using public transportation.

"Park and Ride itu adalah kalau orang keluar dari rumah, dia naik kendaraan pribadi atau naik motor ke tempat feeder. Lalu masuk ke transportasi umum, itu bisa MRT, bisa LRT, bisa Transjakarta, bisa Transjabodetabek yang menuju Jakarta. Terutama bagi warga di luar Jakarta yang bekerja di Jakarta, ini akan sangat bermanfaat," urai Pramono.

In this initial discussion, a number of regional heads in Bodetabek admitted that they were ready to provide parks and rides in their area. This proposal was accommodated by the DKI Provincial Government in line with the development of the public transportation system which is still being prepared.

"For example, the Mayor of Bekasi proposed two places, two points. Bogor must also propose. Later the details will be after this meeting, because this is a meeting to synchronize it," explained Pramono.

On that occasion, Pramono admitted that the role of the buffer zone is indeed needed in solving the transportation system problem in Jakarta as an epicenter in the Jabodetabek agglomeration area.

"Because after all, to overcome transportation problems in Jakarta, it cannot be alone, it must be together with existing areas, especially Bogor, Bekasi, Depok, Tangerang, South Tangerang," he said.
