KPK Ensures To Recall Azis Syamsuddin In Connection With Alleged Mafia Case

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri confirmed that his men would again summon Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Parliament Azis Syamsuddin.

The summons was made after the politician from the Golkar Party was said to have introduced KPK investigator Stepanus Robin Pattuju to the Mayor of Tanjungbalai, M. Syahrial, who was in a lawsuit.

"In the interest of investigating corruption cases, investigators will certainly recall brother AS (Azis Syamsuddin)," Firli told reporters, Thursday, May 20.

The former Deputy for Corruption Eradication of the Corruption Eradication Commission ensured that Azis' involvement would continue to be investigated. Not only that, but Firli also ensured that his party would continue to investigate the suspicion of bribery to terminate the case investigation which ensnared investigators.

Moreover, currently, investigators are still conducting witness examinations and gathering evidence related to the case. "The Corruption Eradication Commission will finish the case as thoroughly as possible and reveal as much as possible to find the suspect," he said.

"Later the KPK will definitely convey every development to the public," added Firli.

Previously reported, Azis Syamsuddin was summoned by KPK investigators to ask for information regarding the case that ensnared Stepanus Robin Pattuju. However, he did not attend with the excuse that there were other activities that could not be abandoned.

Even so, he was present when questioned by the KPK Supervisory Board on Monday, May 17 yesterday. He was summoned regarding the alleged violation of the code of ethics by Stepanus.

In this case, Azis' involvement was quite clear from the KPK. He is said to have introduced Stepanus and M. Syahrial to his official residence.

From these introductions, Stepanus and M Syahrial then made an agreement to terminate the case that was being investigated by the KPK and resulted in the giving of IDR 1.3 billion.
