JAKARTA - Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stressed preparations for a meeting in Budapest between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are still ongoing, although the White House has confirmed it will be postponed.
The meeting was postponed due to Moscow's immediate rejection of the ceasefire in Ukraine clouding negotiated efforts.
"(Hungary Foreign Minister Peter) Szijjarto is in Washington. Preparations for the peace summit continue. The date is still uncertain. When the time comes, we will hold it," Orban wrote on Facebook.
Trump last week announced he and Putin would soon meet in Hungary to try to end the war in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Trump said he did not want to hold a "in vain meeting" but hinted at the possibility of further developments.
"We will let you know in the next two days," he said.

Orban, who lags behind most polls ahead of parliamentary elections 2026, has long been Trump's ally.
He also maintains a warm relationship with Moscow, adding to the poor status he has achieved in Brussels after years of conflict over what the European Union calls a democratic setback in Budapest.
