JAKARTA - The UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) said more than 8,000 teachers were ready to return to help children in the Gaza Strip continue their education after years of halting due to war.

In uploads on platform X, UNRWA confirmed that as the largest humanitarian organization still operating in the Palestinian enclave, it must be allowed to carry out its duties without a hitch.

"Gaza children have lost their right to education for too long," said UNRWA, quoted from ANTARA.

The agency also stressed the importance of getting children in Gaza to return to school immediately, given that education is one of the most affected basic rights during the conflict.

Previously, Palestinian Ministry of Education data noted that since the war broke out in October 2023, Israel has destroyed 172 public schools, damaged 118 other schools, and attacked more than 100 UNRWA-run schools.

This tragedy also claimed lives among students and educators. A total of 17,711 students were reported to have died, 25,897 students were injured, and 763 educators died with 3,189 others injured.

In addition to restoring the education sector, UNRWA is also trying to improve basic health services for the people of Gaza.
