Sampit BKSDA Releases Lutung Allegedly Victim Of Lar Collision

SAMPIT - The Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) of Sampit Resort, East Kotawaringin (Kotim), Central Kalimantan decided to release the gray bag that was previously found and handed over by residents in injured condition, it is strongly suspected that the victim of a hit-and-run.

"Although not yet 100 percent healthy, we decided to release it immediately. He can eat and drink, and has the ability to treat himself in nature," said Head of BKSDA Resort Sampit Muriansyah in Sampit, Saturday.

The release activity was also assisted by the Sampit Wildlife Lovers Community. Officers ensure the release location is safe and has the availability of natural feed.

He conveyed that the final condition of the animal with the scientific name Trachypithecus cristatus has shown signs of improving. The torn wound on his body has been sewn, and his behavior is starting to become active and his appetite is starting to increase.

From the observations, the tung tung tulang still suffered minor fractures. Even so, after several considerations, his party decided to release the animal on Thursday night (16/10).

This primate animal was returned to the wild in the forest area of East Kotawaringin Regency even though its recovery has not yet reached 100 percent, because it is feared that it will experience stress if it is too long in the cage.

He continued, species such as lutung and bekantan are difficult to rehabilitate, because they are very sensitive to captivity conditions. When grounded for too long, even though they are given enough food, these animals often seem gloomy and not excited.

Therefore, the decision to release thequtung earlier than previously estimated was basically for the good of the animal itself.
