Not Only Islamic Boarding Schools, All Worship Buildings Prone To Collapse Will Be Rehabilitated

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar said the government not only helped rehabilitate the building of Islamic boarding schools, but also other religious activities that were prone to collapse.

"We are not only focusing on Al Khoziny or Islamic boarding schools, but also on all educational institutions, religious activities, and houses of worship that are vulnerable, we will help all of them," said Coordinating Minister Muhaimin Iskandar as reported by ANTARA, Friday, October 17.

Audits and rehabilitation of buildings will not only target places of worship, but also for all places of social and educational services, such as orphanages and education services.

Coordinating Minister Muhaimin Iskandar said this step was an effort by the state to ensure the safety and security of people studying or worshiping.

"The Minister of Public Works is conducting an audit and assistance process for vulnerable pesantren. This is an anticipation so that students get comfort, security, and the learning process can continue," said Muhaimin Iskandar.

Currently, the Ministry of Public Works is auditing the physical 80 Islamic boarding schools that are categorized as the most vulnerable.

The government will also continue to increase the number of Islamic boarding schools to be audited to speed up the mitigation process.

In addition to the audit process, Coordinating Minister Muhaimin Iskandar will instruct related Ministries/Institutions to perfect the licensing process mechanism and building construction to facilitate the process.

The ministerial meeting was attended by the Director General of Budget of the Ministry of Finance Luky Alfirman, Minister of Public Works Doddy Hanggodo, Deputy Minister of State Secretary Juri Ardiantoro, Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar.
