JAKARTA - Hamas fighters have strengthened their grip in Gaza and have carried out an execution in public Hamas against Israel's statement that it cannot end under US President Donald Trump's plan until militants are stripped of weapons.

In a video circulating late Monday, Hamas fighters dragged seven people into a circle of people in Gaza City, forcing them to their knees, and shooting them from behind.

Gazans said fighters were increasingly visible on Tuesday, deployed along the routes needed for aid deliveries.

Palestinian security sources said dozens of people had died in clashes between Hamas fighters and their arch-foe in recent days.

Although Israeli troops have been withdrawn from urban areas in Gaza by a ceasefire that began last week, drone fire killed five people as they went to inspect homes in the eastern suburbs of Gaza City.

Airstrikes killed one person and injured another near Khan Younis, Gaza's health authorities said.

Hamas accused Israel of violating the ceasefire. The Israeli military opened fire on people crossing the ceasefire line and approached its troops after ignoring calls for a return.

The return of Hamas power in Gaza and continued waves of violence underscore the tough obstacles facing efforts to direct Trump's ceasefire plan towards long-term conflict resolutions.

Although Trump announced a "new Middle East historic fate" to the Israeli parliament on Monday, some of the hardest elements of his plans have not been negotiated to resolve a problem that has shattered previous attempts to end the war.

Israeli forces are still surviving in much of Gaza after part withdrew from the small and densely populated territory.

The increase in promised aid shipments has not materialized for a population of 2.2 million people, many facing starvation.

Trump's jointly organized summit in Egypt on Monday ended without public announcements of major advances in the formation of international military forces for Gaza, or new governing bodies.

The remains of at least 23 hostages are still in Gaza.
