SURABAYA - The Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, asked all sub-district heads, village heads and heads of public health centers throughout Surabaya to anticipate a spike in COVID-19 cases after the Eid Al-Fitr 2021 holiday.

"Please maximize the task force and supervision in each region. This is in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and the city's economic growth," said Eri Cahyadi during a virtual meeting with sub-districts and village heads at the Surabaya City Hall, East Java, as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, 18 May.

According to him, there were several important points conveyed in the virtual meeting, namely discussing increased economic growth in the second quarter of 2021 and controlling COVID-19 cases after the Eid holiday.

In addition, Eri Cahyadi also explained President Joko Widodo's instructions regarding Indonesia's economic growth target of more than seven percent. The presidential instruction explains that the economy in each region must increase in the second quarter of 2021, provided that the number of COVID-19 cases has not increased.

"This means that automatically we will tighten our health protocols and make vaccination more effective, especially for public services and the elderly," said Eri Cahyadi.

Therefore, Eri Cahyadi asked the village heads and sub-district heads to protect their areas by innovating as best as possible according to local conditions.

In addition, he said, Kampung Tangguh Wani Jogo Suroboyo must also be revived by involving all representatives of society to become part of the COVID-19 task force.

"So the members of the task force are not only Neighborhood/Community Association (RT/RW) and other administrators but involve all elements to become part of the task force, starting from representatives of youth organizations, cadres, and PKK mothers. That way everything is touched because emotional closeness also affects," he said.

Eri Cahyadi asked the subdistrict head as the "owner" of the area to know the mobilization of its citizens with the help of the village head, RT/RW, and three pillars. This is important to do in anticipation of a spike in COVID-19 cases after the Eid holiday.
