JAKARTA - Campaign for Good today launched #MelihatMasaDepan (“Seeing the Future”), a nationwide campaign aimed at preventing avoidable vision impairment in Indonesia. Timed to commemorate World Sight Day 2025, the program combines public education, community surveys, landscape study, and cross-sector collaborations to raise awareness, mobilise participation, and expand equitable access to quality eye care.

Globally, an estimated 2.2 billion people live with vision impairment or blindness, and at least 1 billion cases could have been prevented or remain untreated (WHO, 2019). In Indonesia alone, studies indicate that more than three million people are blind, making it one of the highest prevalence rates in Southeast Asia. This challenge affects not just health, but also education outcomes, productivity, and the dignity of families nationwide.

CEO Statement: Evidence-Based Solutions for Stronger Eye Health Programs

At the heart of #MelihatMasaDepan is a commitment to evidence-based solutions. The campaign will launch a national landscape study to map both local and international organisations active in eye health, alongside a public survey to capture people’s needs, perceptions, and barriers to accessing care. Together, these insights will build a stronger foundation for program design, policymaking, and investment in Indonesia’s eye health ecosystem.

“Eye health is about more than sight; it is about dignity, opportunity, and the ability to shape one’s own future. With #MelihatMasaDepan, we are uniting communities, organisations, and data to work toward a future where everyone can see clearly and live fully,” said William Gondokusumo, CEO, Campaign for Good.

Open Call for Eye Health Programs

The campaign begins with an Open Call for Eye Health Programs, inviting initiatives that focus on prevention, treatment, education, and community empowerment.

Through an engaging community vetting process, selected programs will receive:

● A total of IDR 100 million in unrestricted grant funding for 3 organisations.

● Unrestricted micro-grants worth up to IDR 15 million, awarded according to the level of community support they secure.

● Access to insights from a national landscape study mapping both local and international organisations active in eye health in Indonesia.

National Awareness Campaign to Amplify Eye Health

The campaign will be reinforced through nationwide public education efforts, from dynamic social media engagement to strategic media partnerships, to encourage widespread participation in eye health.

Organisations interested in joining the #MelihatMasaDepan campaign can submit their applications via the official microsite: melihatmasadepan.campaign.com.
