JAKARTA The government's plan to remove the arrears in the National Health Insurance (JKN) participants received full support from Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives. Member of the House of Representatives Health Commission, Arzeti Bilbina, sees this initiative as a new hope for vulnerable families who have been hampered from accessing BPJS Health services because their membership status is frozen.

Arzeti emphasized that this policy is a tangible form of the state's presence in protecting citizens from the financial burden and health risks that are piling up.

Contribution Arrears: Health Access Barriers For The Poor

The PKB politician highlighted a sad phenomenon in the field, where many people refrain from seeking treatment because their Health BPJS cards are disabled.

"We often find that many people are holding back treatment because BPJS Kesehatan is frozen because it has not paid or is in arrears, especially people from vulnerable groups. This is very sad, even though they may be in arrears due to various problems and life burdens," Arzeti told reporters, Thursday, October 9.

"So the policy of eliminating BPJS arrears is a new hope for people from vulnerable families to obtain proper access to health from the State," he added.

Warning DPR: Don't Let The JKN Ambyar System

Despite their full support, Arzeti Bilbina warned that the policy to eliminate arrears in BPJS Health contributions would not interfere with the continuity of the JKN system as a whole. He emphasized the importance of a measurable and targeted mechanism in the release of arrears.

"This arrears release is important, but do not make people negligent about their obligations. Education and assistance must still be carried out so that JKN participants remain active in paying dues regularly in the future," said the legislator from the East Java I electoral district.

According to him, this step is not just easing the burden, but also maintaining public trust in a fair social security system.

"Health services should not be a burden, but must be a right that can be accessed by all Indonesian people," said Arzeti.

Commission IX of the DPR promised to continue to oversee the implementation of this policy. The goal is not to pose fiscal and technical risks that endanger the sustainability of BPJS Health services, and ensure that the implementation runs transparently and data-based accurately.

November Target: Cak Imin Review Of Elimination Of Trillion Arrears

As is known, the discourse on removing arrears was made by the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin).

Cak Imin said that the government is currently reviewing and designing a policy to eliminate BPJS Health arrears whose value reaches trillions of rupiah in November.

The arrears were intended so that BPJS participants would no longer be burdened with past debts, so that they could resume new contributions without administrative obstacles. Cak Imin emphasized that this release does not mean that it permanently abolishes people's obligations, but provides new opportunities for the system to continue through awareness of new contributions.
