JAKARTA - Head of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) Muhammad Yusuf Ateh encourages the recovery of state financial losses from handling corruption in the national mining industry.

The statement was made when he witnessed firsthand the handover of assets looted by the state related to corruption crimes at PT Timah in Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung Islands Province.

"The handover of these assets is part of the government's move to return state losses while improving governance in state tin mining business entities. BPKP is also committed to overseeing the use of assets that have been handed over," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 8.

The presence of BPKP is considered to emphasize the strategic role of this institution in ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of state assets.

He hopes that the assets that have been handed over can strengthen the performance of PT Timah and have a positive impact on the national economy, especially the people in Bangka Belitung.

According to Attorney General ST Burhanuddin's statement, this case originated from illegal practices in tin management by PT Timah which caused state financial losses of Rp300 trillion involving 22 individual defendants and 5 corporations.

The control of tin mining in Bangka Belitung is a follow-up to the handling of corruption cases at PT Timah which is detrimental to the state.

In an investigation conducted by the Attorney General's Office, investigators were assisted by the TNI to track down the assets of the suspects.

The result of the investigation is the success of the Prosecutor's Office in confiscating large-value assets which has then been partially decided by the court to be confiscated by the state.

In the legal process, a number of assets have been confiscated by the state through a court decision and at this stage it has been officially handed over to PT Timah through the Ministry of Finance with a total estimated value of IDR 1.45 trillion.
