PeKANBARU - Riau Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA) followed up on reports from residents who claimed to have seen three tigers in Penga Hidup Village, Kampar Kiri Tengah District, Kampar Regency, by deploying a joint team to the scene.

Head of BBKSDA Riau Supartono said a team consisting of BBKSDA officers, the police, and the village government were deployed to verify the veracity of the report.

"Following up on the report, the joint team immediately went to the field to carry out initial identification," said Supartono in Pekanbaru, Antara, Sunday, November 5.

Initial reports stated that three animals suspected of being Sumatran tigers (Panthera tigris sumatrae) were seen in the oil palm plantation area belonging to partners of PT Flora Wahana Tirta.

The location of the incident is known to be about 45 kilometers from the Bukit Rimbang Bukit Baling Wildlife Sanctuary, which is the natural habitat of the Sumatran tiger.

The team interviewed three reporting residents, namely Hendri Gule, Rito Widodo, and Andri Miko. They claimed to have seen three tigers on September 28, 2025 at around 18.00 WIB one adult and two others still young.

"But because of panic and fear, residents did not have time to take photos or other documentation," said Supartono.

However, the results of the field inspection found no signs of tigers, such as footprints, scratches, or dirt. Supartono emphasized that although there was no physical evidence, the joint team continued to increase supervision around the location and provide education to residents to increase vigilance.

As an anticipatory measure, BBKSDA appealed to the public not to do activities alone in the garden, especially after 17.00 WIB and before 07.00 WIB.

PT Flora Wahana Tirta was also advised to install a warning board in the reported area where the tiger appeared, "he said.
