From The Collapse Of The Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School, The DPR Urges The Audit Of Islamic Boarding School Infrastructure Throughout Indonesia

Deputy Chairman of Commission V DPR RI, Syaiful Huda, assessed the tragedy of the collapse of the Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School building, Sidoarjo, East Java as an indicator of the weak support of state infrastructure for Islamic boarding schools in the country. For this incident, he asked the government to intervene in ensuring the feasibility of Islamic boarding schools facilities.

Huda emphasized that grief at the Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School is a new starting point for the state to be better at treating pesantren as a pillar of education in Indonesia. He also urged the Ministry of Public Works to conduct a feasibility survey of Islamic boarding schools in the country.

"From the survey, the government must intervene to ensure the feasibility of the pesantren infrastructure. Don't let pesantren close your eyes so far, then there have been incidents of busy accusing the Islamic boarding school manager," Huda told reporters, Friday, October 3.

Huda revealed that the majority of pesantren have been held on public self-help. Therefore, according to him, this situation has made pesantren infrastructure built in stages according to the capabilities of pesantren caregivers.

"This is where the state's commitment should be to help Islamic boarding schools provide infrastructure needs ranging from dormitories, places of worship, to school buildings," said Huda.

Huda said almost all elements of the nation agreed on the large contribution of pesantren in the country. It's just that, he said, the fact is that this pesantren contribution is not fully supported by the state in terms of providing regulations, budgets, and assistance.

"Currently, there is Law Number 18/2019 concerning Islamic Boarding Schools, but the implementation in the field is still weak. In fact, there is still a phenomenon of mitigating Islamic boarding schools in the form of aid allocations and recognition of graduates' equality when compared to government-owned schools or educational institutions," said the PKB legislator from the West Java electoral district.

Huda, who is also an alumni of the Denanyar Jombang Islamic Boarding School, also revealed that the process of developing pesantren infrastructure depends fully on the capabilities of the boarding school caregivers. With the concept of boarding school, according to him, pesantren caregivers need dormitories where students stay, places of worship, study buildings, and adequate interaction rooms for students.

"Of course with such a large need, pesantren caregivers cannot provide infrastructure at once. Development must be carried out in stages. On the other hand, public interest in sending pesantren children is quite high. This situation is quite dilemma for pesantren caregivers," he said.

As is known, hundreds of students were trapped in the rubble of the Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School Men's Dormitory, Buduran, Sidoarjo while working on the Asr prayer congregation, Monday, September 29. The 4th floor of the Musala has just been cast for the activities of the students.

Allegedly because the foundation structure was not strong enough to bear the burden of triggering the disaster. Up to D+4, it is suspected that 59 victims were still trapped in the rubble of the building. In this incident, three students died with dozens of injuries.
