Doctor Obscene In Garut Sentenced To 5 Years In Prison

GARUT - obstetrician M Syafril Firdaus, a defendant in the molestation case against a number of his patients, was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison by the Garut District Court, West Java.

The panel of trials for the decision of the immoral case with the accused obstetrician was led by Sandi M. Alayabi, then member judges Haryanto Das'at, and Ahmadmen who were held to the public without taking photos or videos during the trial began.

The defendant was present at the trial wearing a cap, white shirt and black pants accompanied by his attorney, Firman S. Rohman.

Public Relations Officer of the Garut District Court Andre Trisandy said that the judge stated that the defendant was proven to have committed a criminal act of sexual violence (TPKS), in accordance with Article 6 C, Jo Articles B, E and I, RI Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning TPKS.

The charges against the defendant, he said, were a sentence of seven years in prison and a fine of Rp. 50 million or a subsidiary of three months in prison.

Meanwhile, the judge's decision is five years in prison.

"It was decided to five years in prison, a fine of Rp. 50 million, subsidiary to three months in prison, and to pay restitution of Rp. 106 million," said Andre.

He conveyed that the verdict was lighter than the demands based on mitigating considerations because during the trial the defendant gave clear information, and experienced mental disorders, he also received social punishment by spreading it on social media.

"The assembly views that this has become a punishment," he said.

The defendant's attorney, Firman S. Rohman, said that he respects the decision of the panel, but to file an appeal or accept the verdict, it will be discussed first with client M Syafril Firdaus.

"Our client will think about it, can't decide whether to accept or file an appeal," he said.

The Garut District Prosecutor's Team of Public Prosecutors stated that they would think about filing an appeal regarding the results of the judge's decision, which was lighter than the demands.

"The defendant expressed his thoughts, we are also thinking about it," said Head of the General Crimes Section, Kejari Garut Yudhi Satriyo.
