JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung explained the reason the government wanted to move the Sudirman Statue which stands between Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Central Jakarta.
This transfer was carried out because the government would develop the Dukuh Atas transit oriented development (TOD) area. According to Pramono, the statue will be moved to a more prominent point to be seen.
"When we go up to Dukuh Atas, if we are from Thamrin, the Sudirman Statue will be more clear and more pleasing to look at. Later we will arrange it for that," said Pramono at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Thursday, October 2.
Pramono emphasized that the shift of the statue of the first national hero and commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces was carried out to strengthen the sign of respect for the nation to General Sudirman.
The government does not want the Dukuh Atas TOD to cover its eyes towards the 11 meter high statue.
"After all, this is a big general. So that later in Dukuh Atas it will be built, connected, the Sudirman Statue must be placed which is really up front," explained Pramono.
Previously, the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, revealed that the plan to transfer the Statue of General Sudirman was one of the topics discussed during a meeting with the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung some time ago.
"Yesterday, the Governor said that there was a possibility of moving the statue of the Great General Sudirman which was originally on the south side, it would be moved closer to (Jalan) Thamrin," Dudy said in a media briefing, in Jakarta, Tuesday, September 30.
Dudy said the government did plan to develop a public transportation integration area in Dukuh Atas. Later, in the area, four modes of public transportation will be integrated, namely MRT, LRT, KRL and airport trains.
"The Dukuh Atas TOD will later integrate four train-based modes of transportation, thus providing more comfort to the community," he said.
Furthermore, Dudy said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung hopes that the development of a public transportation integration area in the Dukuh Atas area can be completed in 2027.
"We as regulators support what is the plan of the DKI Provincial Government so that this can be realized soon," he said.
