VOI Today: Aceh-North Sumatra Heats Up, Vehicle Plates Become Regional Tax Rebuttals. Mualem Warns Bobby

JAKARTA - After last June having clashed over the four islands belonging to Aceh which were claimed to belong to North Sumatra, now there are new problems related to vehicle plates. The trigger is a video that went viral on social media on Saturday, September 27.

The video shows the North Sumatra Governor's entourage, Bobby Nasution, stopping a truck with a BL plate (Aceh police number) in Langkat, near the Aceh-North border. The group appealed to truck drivers to tell the company owner to change the vehicle plate to BK or BB (North Sumatra police number).

The goal is so that the motor vehicle tax, which is one of the sources of Regional Original Revenue (PAD) of North Sumatra, can enter the North Sumatra regional treasury, not Aceh.

This was revealed by the Assistant for General Administration of the North Sumatra Secretariat Muhammad Suib and agreed by the Governor of North Sumatra Bobby Nasution on September 29.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Aceh, Muzakir Manaf (Mualem), chose to be calm. Mualem stated that he did not care, but he emphasized that he would act if the policy harmed the Acehnese people widely. With Acehnese, Mualem gave a stern warning to the North Sumatra Provincial Government.
