Earthquake Shake M 6.1 Sumenep Damaged 3 Buildings In Situbondo

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) noted that two buildings in Situbondo Regency were damaged by a magnitude (M) 6.1 earthquake in Sumenep on Tuesday, September 30 at 23.49 WIB.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the 6.5 magnitude earthquake was upgraded to a magnitude of 6.1 centered 56 kilometers northeast of Situbondo, and 50 kilometers southeast of Sumenep (Madura) with a depth of 10 kilometers and no potential for a tsunami.

"Yes, it is true that last night's earthquake was temporarily reported that three buildings in Situbondo were damaged, consisting of two houses and one elementary school prayer room being lightly to moderately damaged," said Head of BPBD Situbondo Regency, Sruwi Hartanto in Situbondo, Wednesday, confiscated by Antara.

He conveyed that the two houses affected by the earthquake were in North Semiring Village, Semiring Village, Mangaran District, and in Mimbaan Village, Panji District, while the affected elementary school prayer rooms were SDN 1 Alasmalang, Panarukan District.

"The team is still in the field to collect data on the impact of this earthquake," said Sruwi Hartanto.

Meanwhile, BMKG Intermediary Expert at Pasuruan Geophysics Station Syawaldin Ridha when contacted from Situbondo, said the earthquake that occurred on Tuesday, September 30 at midnight was triggered by goat fault activity or the same as the earthquake that occurred on October 11, 2018.

He explained that the activity of goat faults could mean that Situbondo was threatened by two earthquake generators, namely goat faults and faults by bows.

Thus, it further confirms that Situbondo is an area prone to earthquake disasters.

Syawaldin Ridha appealed to the people of Situbondo to get to know their environment better and be able to carry out independent evacuations.

"People must understand the pre-, current, and after-earthquake mitigation in their area to reduce the risk of natural disasters," he said.
