6.5 Magnitude Night Earthquake Shakes Sumenep, Feels Until Pamekasan

PAMEKASAN - An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 rocked the Sumenep Regency, East Java, Tuesday, September 30, at around 23.49 WIB.

The epicenter of this earthquake was at coordinates 7.25 south latitude, 114.22 east longitude, with the epicenter of the earthquake at sea 50 kilometers southeast of Sumenep at a depth of 11 kilometers.

"The earthquake has no potential for a tsunami," said a press release from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) which was monitored in Pamekasan, East Java, quoted by ANTARA Wednesday, October 1 morning.

The earthquake that occurred in Sumenep waters was also felt by residents in Pamekasan, Sampang, and parts in Bangkalan Regency.

"Reports from BPBD forums and disaster management volunteers throughout Madura in the WA group we mentioned that friends in other districts also felt it," said a spokesman for the Madura BPBD Forum, Budi Cahyono.

He explained that the Sumenep Regency BPBD ranks are now checking and there have been no reports regarding the impact of the disaster that occurred in the easternmost region on Madura Island.
