7 People Drown In Reservoir, La Nyalla Warns SOP Safety Of Tourist Attractions Must Be Improved

JAKARTA - Chairman of DPD RI La Nyalla Mattalitti asserted, the managers of tourist attractions must improve and tighten the implementation of operational standards of safety procedures (SOP). This followed a boat accident at the Kedung Ombo Reservoir attraction, Central Java.

"This event should be a lesson ahead and there should be a thorough evaluation. Disparbud should ensure the safety of the traveling public," Said La Nyalla, Sunday, May 16.

The East Java senator suggested the tourist site be temporarily closed to support the process of finding victims. The management must also be fully responsible.

"Evaluation sop safety, make sure that the boat ride all wear buoys. The capacity of the boat is also limited, do not get overloaded," said La Nyalla.

According to him, a number of water attractions often ignore safety standards for visitors. Therefore, he requested that this element of safety be included as an important requirement in licensing.

"I have contacted several dpd senators who are in their respective dapilnya. I ask them to monitor and review the water tours in the area. They have to make sure visitor safety standards are applied correctly," he said.

The former Chairman of the PSSI urged the authorities to investigate further the incident. It is necessary to ascertain whether there is any indication of human error in order to be accounted for.

"If you look at the events, there is most likely an element of human negligence. We ask to take it to the legal process according to the existing rules," said La Nyalla.

Seven of the nine people missing from the overturned boat at Kedungombo Reservoir in Boyolali, Central Java, were found dead on Saturday, May 15.
