Mentawai Regency Government Reports Dozens Of Cattle Infected With Jembrana Virus

MENTAWAI - The Regency Government (Pemkab) of the Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra Province (West Sumatra), reported that dozens of cows in the area died and were suspected of contracting the Jembrana Virus.

"The latest data shows that 47 cows have died and spread over four different locations," said Head of the Food and Agriculture Security Service (DKPP) of Mentawai Islands Regency Hatisama Hura in Padang, Antara, Tuesday, September 23.

From the records of the DKPP Mentawai Islands Regency, cows suspected of contracting the Jembrana Virus were spread across Sipora Jaya 1, Tuapejat, Pasapati Hamlet, and in Sikakap District.

Based on the results of sending samples to the Bukittinggi City Veterinary Center, it is known that the cows that died in Mentawai Islands Regency have been infected with the Jembrana Virus for some time.

Hatisama Hura said that currently the local government (Pemda) is still investigating the origin of the Jembrana Virus, including tracking whether there is livestock traffic entering the area without the completeness of official documents.

So far, the Mentawai Islands Regency Government has taken anticipatory steps in the form of giving vitamins so that there is no expansion of the Jembrana Virus.

In addition, the local government also coordinates with the West Sumatra Provincial Livestock Service and the Veterinary Center to help accelerate the handling of the Jembrana Virus.

Not only that, some time ago the DKPP of the Mentawai Islands Regency received 500 doses of the Jembrana Virus vaccine which was immediately injected into the residents' livestock.

"We have submitted it to the province so that there is an additional dose because the number sent yesterday is still lacking," he said.
