Arif Satria is rumored to be the Head of BRIN to replace Laksana Tri Handokok who was urged to resign.

It is known that Laksana was inaugurated as Head of BRIN on April 18, 2021 by President Joko Widodo. On January 30, 2023, Commission VII of the DPR through a Hearing Meeting (RDP) urged the removal of the Head of BRIN because it was considered unprofessional.

Next, on May 27, 2025, a number of state civil servants (ASN) within the BRIN also held a demonstration demanding the removal of Laksana as Head of BRIN for acting not transparently as well as arbitrarily.

Profile Arif Satria is an academic and Chancellor of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB). The man who was born in Pekalongan, September 17, 1971, has a background in agricultural economic science, rural sociology, and marine policy.

During his time in school, Arif has always been an outstanding student and an exemplary student, from the 1986 Junior High School level to the 1989 High School level. Not only that, Arif is also actively ogating, and has been the head of OSIS since junior high school.

After graduating from high school in 1990, Arif continued his studies at the IPB Agricultural Socio-Economics department. He was accepted on the campus through an invitational route.

During his college days, Arif was active in various student organizations, such as the IPB Student Senate Presidium, National Director, and the Founder of the International Association of Students in Agricultural and Relate Science Indonesia.

After winning his Bachelor's degree, Arif took a master's program on the same campus. However, this time Arif pursues the Sociology of rural areas. Next, he continued his studies at the doctoral level at Kagoshima University Japan. Arif entered the Department of Marine Social Sciences and earned a doctorate in 2006.

Arif was also noted to have been part of international organizations, such as the Fisheries Center, University of British Columbia, Canada in 2004, and Lab. Of International Marine Policy, Kagoshima University, Japan in 2000.

In 2010, Arif was trusted to lead the Faculty of Human Ecology (FEMA) IPB. He held the position until 2017. He has also been a Visiting Fellow at the University of British Columbia, Canada, quoted from the official IPB website.

After no longer being the dean, Arif was elected as Chancellor of IPB in 2017 and was re-elected for the second term with a term of 2023-2028.

In their second term as rector, Arif was appointed by the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo as a member of the selection committee of the Corruption Eradication Commission (Pansel KPK).

Apart from being the Chancellor of IPB and a member of the KPK Pansel, Arif was noted to have held various strategic positions, including the President Commissioner of PTPN Holding, Advisor to the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries for the period 2012-2019, Member of the Supervisory Board of Perum Perikanan Indonesia (2013-2017), and the Expert Team of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (2001-2022).

Arif Satria was also the Chair of the Indonesian Chancellor's Forum in 2020 and was the Indonesian delegation at the Rio +20 Earth Summit held by the United Nation (PBB) in Brazil in 2012.
