SENTANI - The Jayapura Regency Government (Pemkab) is ready to welcome the working visit of the Indonesian Vice President (Wapres) Gibran Rakabuming Raka to see firsthand the running of the Free Nutrition Food (MBG) program at SMP Negeri 2 Sentani in Jayapura Regency, Papua Province, Wednesday 17 September.

Jayapura Regent Yunus Wonda while waiting for the arrival of Vice President Gibran at SMP Negeri 2 Sentani, said the visit was to ensure that the national priority program ran well in schools, as well as to see the quality of the prepared food.

"This MBG program aims to increase children's nutritional intake so that they are healthier, smarter, and ready to compete in the future. The vice president wants to ensure that the implementation runs smoothly," he said, quoted by ANTARA.

According to Yunus, the quality of nutrition of school children is an important factor in the development of human resources in Papua. Therefore, the government wants to ensure program sustainability through cross-sectoral coordination, including the education, health and school offices.

"We are not only talking about the food given every day, but also the distribution pattern, the availability of local foodstuffs, as well as the involvement of parents and the community in supporting this program," he said.

He explained that the Jayapura Regency Government had been in SMP Negeri 2 Sentani since morning to receive a visit from Vice President Gibran.

"We have been at school since 08.00 WIT to look forward to the arrival of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka here to meet the beneficiaries of the MBG program," he said.

He hopes that the MBG program will also be able to outwit small business actors and local farmers, so that the food supply chain will not only nourish children, be integrated as well as drive the economy of the surrounding community.

"If food is absorbed from local farmers and MSMEs, the impact can be doubled. Children are healthy, while the family's economy in the regions is also growing," he said.
