ALJAZAIR - The Indonesian Ambassador to Algeria, Yusron Bahauddin Ambary, encourages the expansion of pencak silat training for Algerian children and adolescents. The program is carried out through cooperation between Pertamina Algeria and the Algerian Pencak Silat National Committee or CNPSA.
The cooperation was outlined in a memorandum of understanding signed at the Indonesian Embassy in Algiers on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. The Indonesian Embassy in Algiers facilitated and witnessed the signing.
This program is part of the corporate social responsibility or CSR of PT Pertamina Algeria Exploration and Production. The activities include coaching young athletes, expanding access to training, and introducing pencak silat as an Indonesian culture.
"Pencak silat is not just a martial art. It contains the values of discipline, mutual respect, sportsmanship, and brotherhood," said Yusron, quoted from a written statement received on Thursday, July 23.
He hopes that this cooperation can produce young Algerian athletes as well as strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
The Indonesian Embassy in Algiers will accompany the implementation of the program and bridge communication between Pertamina Algeria and CNPSA. This step is necessary so that the activities agreed upon can run sustainably.
"We hope that this partnership will be an example of cooperation between the business world, sports organizations, and the government in introducing Indonesian culture to the Algerian people," said Yusron.
CNPSA was chosen because it has consistently developed pencak silat in Algeria since its establishment in 2016. The organization now has more than 4,000 members spread across 17 regions.
In addition to opening access to training for the younger generation, CNPSA has recorded achievements at the international level.
At the World Pencak Silat II Championship at the Putera Muhammadiyah Sacred Footprints in Malang on July 30 to August 3, 2025, the Algerian contingent won one gold medal, one silver, and seven bronze.
Through this cooperation, the training of pencak silat is targeted to reach more young Algerians and open wider space for local athletes to develop.
