JAKARTA - Clashes broke out in a demonstration rejecting the plan to purchase SUV official cars for lawmakers in Timor Leste.
Citing AFP, the local government tires and cars were burned by demonstrators near the Timor Leste parliament building in Dili, Tuesday, September 16.
The protesters also threw stones at the officers on guard in front of the parliament building. The action was met with tear gas from the police.
More than 2,000 demonstrators, most of whom students from Dili have gathered near the National Parliament to oppose plans to procure the Toyota Prado SUV for each of the 65 members of the Timor Leste parliament.
