The Suspension Of The Execution Of Silfester Matina Strengthens Allegations Of Intervention

JAKARTA Bung Karno University legal observer, Hudi Yusuf urged the Attorney General's Office or the South Jakarta District Attorney to immediately execute the General Chairperson of the Red and White Solidarity Silfester Matina to dismiss allegations of political intervention.

"Silfester has already been sentenced to 1.5 years in prison. The Prosecutor's Office must be firm if the decision has permanent legal force and the execution of the convict does not take long," he said, Sunday, September 14, 2025.

"Moreover, there is an issue that he has a relationship at the prosecutor's office and is known as a loyalist of Joko Widodo. The longer the execution, the stronger the suspicion of intervention in the case. Even though there should be no intervention from anyone and the state cannot be defeated by the convict," added Hudi.

He explained that the prosecutor's office should immediately execute the Silfester after a permanent legal decision was issued since 2019 without clear and transparent reasons. In fact, until now there is no legal reason or humanitarian reason to postpone the execution of the decision that has permanent legal force.

According to Hudi, the law will be suspended if it is not carried out on time. This is because neglect of this is tantamount to closing the principle of justice. If this pattern of delay occurs because there are allegations of closeness to certain party networks or figures in power, it means that what is shown to the public is the practice of protection as well as a political disaster by abusing power. "The postponement of this execution is not juridical, but political," he added.

He revealed that political noise makes the law unclear because the law is subject to group interests. The similarity of political groups can be seen from the tendency to have meetings of mind in certain agreements or controls, in which the form can be a defensive conspiracy.

"In this case, the performance of judges needs to be audited, especially supervisory judges, and prosecutors at the South Jakarta District Attorney's Office. Hudi emphasized that law enforcement must be of high quality because it cannot become a tool of power dynasties which in the end can undermine people's trust and destroy the joints of democracy.
