Police Investigate Allegations Of Poisoning Dozens Of Semarang Residents

Dozens of residents of Bangetayu Wetan, Semarang City, Central Java, are suspected of having been poisoned after eating food from a celebration held by a family in the area.

"Counts of residents in one of the villages in the Bangetayu Wetan area attended a celebration to commemorate the death of a family member in the area," said Genuk Police Chief Kompol Rusmanto in Semarang, Saturday.

According to him, the family who held the celebration which was held on Friday (12/9) night cooked the dishes themselves.

He explained that the food served in the packaged rice boxes included rice,ISEs, fried sambal chicken liver, and beef food. After going home and eating the food served, he said, some began to complain of pain and nausea.

"In the middle of the night there were 21 people who had to be rushed to Wongsonegoro Hospital due to vomiting and diarrhea," he said.

According to him, the police who received the report had secured food samples that were suspected to be the cause of poisoning to be examined at the Semarang City Health Laboratory. In addition, he continued, the police had also asked for information from the organizers of the celebration who were suspected of being victims of food poisoning.

"It cannot be asked for detailed information because his family is also poisoned," he added.
