ISTANBUL - Former Chief Justice of Nepal's Supreme Court Sushila Karki has officially served as interim prime minister to replace PM Sharma Oli who withdrew after major protests in the country.
Reported by ANTARA, after reading the oath of office in front of President Ramchandra Paudel, on Friday local time, Karki immediately filed for the disbandment of parliament so that general elections could be held immediately.
Paudel immediately approved the proposal and declared the disbandment of parliament elected in the 2022 election, according to a media report by SetoPati.
It was also reported that the election date had been set to be held on March 5, 2026, more than six months from now.
The decision was in accordance with demands made at the "Gen Z" demonstration that urged major changes in politics in the mountainous nation since protests exploded on Monday, September 8.
