Turkey Intensifies, After Putin Calls Now To Support Algeria To Stop Israeli Aggression In Palestine

JAKARTA - Algeria is coordinating with Turkey to stop Israeli aggression against the Palestinians. This was conveyed by algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum on Wednesday, May 12.

Boukadoum and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu made a phone call to discuss developments in the Palestinian territories.

"I thank my colleague Mevlut Cavusoglu, Turkish Foreign Minister, for the phone call to coordinate efforts to confront (Israeli) aggression against our brothers and sisters in Palestine," Boukadoum wrote on Twitter quoted from the report on Yenisafak, Thursday, May 13.

On Tuesday, Cavusoglu said Turkey was leading efforts to get the U.N. General Assembly to pass a resolution on Israeli attacks on Palestinians.

Cavusoglu reiterated that Turkey will continue its efforts to defend the rights of the Palestinian people, saying Ankara is leading diplomatic efforts at a high level on the situation on Palestinian soil.

He said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had been in contact with world leaders regarding developments in the Palestinian territories.

At least 53 Palestinians have been killed and 304 others injured in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip amid tensions across the Palestinian territories after Israeli police stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem and attacked worshippers.

Five Israelis were also killed by rocket fire from the Gaza Strip. The turmoil comes against the backdrop of an Israeli court order last week for the eviction of a Palestinian family in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem.

Earlier, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed tensions in Gaza and Jerusalem by phone, according to the Turkish presidency, as Ankara seeks international action against Israel.

Israel launched hundreds of airstrikes on Gaza on Wednesday morning as the Islamist group Hamas and other Palestinian fighters fired rockets at the border, in the most intense attack in years that killed at least 35 people.
