Acknowledgments From Protesters In Hong Kong For Donald Trump

HONG KONG - Hundreds of people, including elderly people, in Hong Kong parade to the United States (US) consulate office on Sunday, December 1. They were there to show their gratitude for the support the US has given to pro-democracy protests that have been running for nearly six months.

Reported by Antara, the protesters unfurled a banner with the picture of US President Donald Trump standing with his legs apart on top of a tank with the US flag behind it.

Several people were wearing t-shirts and hats with the Donald Trump logo, holding up other stretches of banners reading "President Trump, please free Hong Kong."

At the start of the action, a loudspeaker participant spoke, "Thank you President Trump for the great gift given to Hong Kong, may God bless America."

This week, Trump signed legislation supporting the protesters in Hong Kong, despite anger and objections from the Chinese government.

Sunday morning, before the march, hundreds of protesters including many families with children also staged a protest against the way the police used tear gas to disperse the protest.

They carried yellow balloons and waved banners reading "Don't use tear gas, save the children," and walked along the central business district to the Hong Kong government headquarters.

"We want the police to stop using tear gas. That is not a good way to solve the problem. The government should listen to the people. This is ridiculous," said one woman who took part in the parade with her husband and five-year-old child.

Since the protests began to flare up last June, police have fired around 10,000 times of tear gas, according to Hong Kong's city secretary for security affairs, John Lee, last week.

In recent weeks, Hong Kong's situation has been relatively calmer than before, but activists pledged to keep up the momentum of the pro-democracy movement with three marches on Sunday, all with permission from the authorities.
