COVID-19 Task Force Asks Lampung Provincial Government To Monitor Bakauheni-Merak Crossing

JAKARTA - The spokesman of the Task Force for handling COVID-19, Wiku Adisasmito, asked the Lampung Provincial Government to supervise the crossing in the port area of Bakauheni-Merak.

Lampung provincial government was also asked to form a special task force led by the Chief of Police and Military Resort Command Lampung.

"This task force will conduct an examination of all documents and has the right to prohibit travelers from crossing to Java Island if they are not eligible", Wiku said in a discussion aired on BNPB Indonesia's YouTube, Wednesday, May 13.

This special task force aims to reduce the rate of transmission of COVID-19. Because they must act decisively to limit the mobility of society.

"We want to make sure that everyone who does mobility is ensured to be in good health and to have their mobility officially with a travel permit that has been in place since departure", he said.

Wiku also mentioned that Sumatra island is now one of the regions that contributed to the addition of active cases of COVID-19. In fact, as of last April, the island only contributed two provinces.

"This has changed since April where it began to enter two provinces namely Riau and West Sumatra. Then, May entered five provinces namely Riau, West Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Riau Islands, and South Sumatra into the contributors of the 10 highest cases provinces nationally", he said.

Therefore, the COVID-19 Task Force pays more attention to the Province of Sumatra. Because Java island is now experiencing a national contribution even up to 11.06 percent.

"So it can be said that Java island has decreased national contribution and on the contrary cases in Sumatra have increased in recent times", he said.

"Therefore, the task force asks all Governors who take action or steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19", concluded Wiku.
