British Ambassador To US Fired For His Relations With Prisoner Epstein Revealed

JAKARTA - British Ambassador to the United States Peter Mandelson was sacked on Thursday after his relationship with convicted perpetrator Jeffrey Epstein's sexual crimes was revealed. This condition is a further disruption for Prime Minister Keir Starmer who is under pressure.

Mandelson, nicknamed the " Prince of Darkness" for its behind-the-scenes maneuvers during the Labor Party's previous administration, was forced to leave the most popular diplomatic post after his letters and emails to Epstein were published this week.

The 71-year-old, a veteran Labor Party politician who is key to the success of the party under former leader Tony Blair, has been in the spotlight regarding his relationship with Epstein after the birthday book was released, including a letter purported to have come from the ambassador candidate, describing Epstein as "my best friend".

Subsequent email published in the media showed Mandelson had advised Epstein to fight for early release when he faced allegations of sexual intercourse with minors.

"Following additional information in an email written by Peter Mandelson, the prime minister has asked the foreign minister to withdraw him as ambassador," the British Foreign Ministry said.

"The parallels show that the depth and reach of Peter Mandelson's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein is materially different from that known at the time of his appointment," he continued.

The ministry said Mandelson's remarks about Epstein's first sentence were false and had to be sued constituted "new information."

On Wednesday, Mandelson said he was very sorry to have met Epstein and he had continued the relationship "much longer than he should have been".
