Demo Ends Riot Last August, PKB Asks Pramono To Create A Special Room For Demonstration Actions In Jakarta

JAKARTA - The PKB faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD asked DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung to create a special space for people who wish to express their aspirations through demonstrations.

This was revealed by a member of the PKB faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Tri Waluyo, after a series of demonstrations at the end of last August which led to riots in a number of areas.

"The PKB faction sees the need for a designated protest space or a Safe Expression Room as a demonstration room that facilitates freedom of opinion while maintaining the regularity of public services," Tri said in his presentation, quoted Wednesday, September 10.

Tri ms said that the forum for conveying aspirations could be packaged into a Safe Expression Room, which is considered a solution so that demonstrations continue to guarantee freedom of expression, without disturbing public services.

"Free speech zones can reduce social friction, maintain the stability of public services, while strengthening Jakarta's reputation as a global city," Tri said.

In addition to the express space, PKB also encourages the adaptation of the incident command system (ICS) or the incident command system that has been used in disaster management.

According to Tri, the integrated command mechanism involving the police, transportation services, health, firefighters, and transportation operators will make it easier for the government to manage traffic flow, protect vital facilities, and accelerate the recovery of post-demontration public services.

"Jakarta must immediately adopt a merit goods-based policy through the provision of a designed protest space, an integrated command system, and the integration of digital dialogue channels," he explained.

Furthermore, Tri emphasized that demonstrations should not be seen as a threat, but a part of normal urban social dynamics. This is also in line with Jakarta's image as a modern, democratic, and open global city.

"The PKB faction fully supports the executive to ensure that the APBD becomes a means of justice so that the cost of living is lighter, basic services are more equitable, crisis protection is more certain, as well as transparent and sustainable management," he added.
