When Video Calls With Husband, Indian Citizen In Israel Killed By Hamas Rocket

JAKARTA - Hamas sent 130 rockets toward the Israeli capital, Tel Aviv, Wednesday, May 12. The rocket rain killed one of the Indian citizens, 32-year-old Soumya Santosh, who worked in Israel as a nanny.

As reported from World Is One News (WION) as quoted by Djawanews Hamas rockets hit the Ashkelon area in Israel. Family member Soumya Santhosh said the rocket crashed while she was talking to her husband in Kerala via video call at night.

"My sister heard a loud noise during the video call. Suddenly the phone disconnected. Then we immediately contacted a fellow Malayali who worked there. So we came to know about it", Santhosh's brother Saji said.

Soumya Santosh, who is from Kerala's Idukki district, works as a nanny caring for an elderly woman in a house in Israel's southern coastal city of Ashkelon, which borders the Gaza Strip, received massive condemnation from Palestinian terrorists.

Soumya has lived in Israel for the past seven years. She has a nine-year-old son whom she left with her husband in Kerala. The woman she was fostering, aged 80, was reportedly safe but in critical condition.

Hostilities between Israel and Hamas escalated overnight, with 35 Palestinians killed in Gaza and three in Israel in the most intensive airstrikes in years.

Israel carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Gaza into the early hours of Wednesday, May 12, when Islamist groups and other Palestinian militant groups fired several rocket attacks on Tel Aviv and Syria.

One building in Gaza collapsed and another was heavily damaged after being repeatedly hit by Israeli airstrikes.

Israel says it is attacking Hamas targets, including intelligence centers and rocket launch sites.

It was the largest attack between Israel and Hamas since the 2014 war in Gaza and sparked international concerns that the situation could get out of control.
