Responding To The Issue Of Military Emergency, Deputy TNI Commander: There Is No Military Desire To Take Over

JAKARTA - Deputy TNI Commander General Tandyo Budi Revita responded to the military emergency scenario which has become a topic of discussion in the community to address the national situation which has been less conducive lately. Tandyo emphasized that until now there is no plan for the TNI to take over the country.

"I convey that soldiers are the TNI in the military or the constitution. Earlier I said that the TNI is currently in a very strong solidity between the Ministry of Defense, TNI Headquarters, and the Army Headquarters. Of course we are in the same command. If there is such an assumption (military emergency), of course that is very wrong," said Tandyo at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, September 1.

Tandyo emphasized that the TNI did not incite riots during demonstrations, especially at the homes of members of the DPR and the Minister of Finance. According to him, the TNI continues to uphold the law and obey the constitution, so there needs to be a request for assistance before going to the field.

"Far from what we are doing. We all of our TNI obey the constitution. We provide assistance to other institutions, of course, on the basis of regulation and demand itself," explained Tandyo.

"I hereby convey that on the 30th (August), the President summoned the National Police Chief with the TNI Commander and the TNI Commander and the National Police Chief delivering the statement. And we are solidly one there. How to manage this together," he continued.

Therefore, Tandyo stated that there was no military emergency scenario in responding to the national situation that had been heating up for the past few days.

"So there is no one we want to take over. It doesn't exist. That's why it was stated that what was put forward was the National Police Chief first. Only after that there was a condition like this, then we became one with the National Police Chief. There was no desire for us to take it," he said.
