Golkar Deactivates Adies Kadir From DPR Amid Public Turbulence

JAKARTA - The Central Executive Board (DPP) of the Golkar Party has officially disabled the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Adies Kadir, from his position as a member of the Golkar faction in the DPR.

The decision was signed by the General Chair of the Golkar Party, Bahlil Lahadalia, together with Secretary General Muhammad Sarmuji in Jakarta on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

"The Golkar Party Central Leadership Council has officially disabled Adies Kadir as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Golkar Party faction, starting Monday, September 1, 2025," Sarmuji said in a video statement confirmed in Jakarta.

According to Sarmuji, this step was taken by paying attention to the recent growing public voices.

The people's aspirations remain the main reference for the struggle of the Golkar Party. All of the work of the party is actually a crystallization of the spirit of the people based on national ideals as stated in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia," he explained.

Golkar also expressed his deep sorrow for the death of civilians in a number of events that occurred while voicing aspirations. Therefore, the deactivation of Adies Kadir is referred to as a disciplinary and ethical measure for party cadres who sit in the DPR.

Previously, the wave of demonstrations colored the DPR area since August 25, 2025. The action highlighted the rejection of the large allowance for DPR members. Two days later, on Thursday (28/8), the situation heated up when an online motorcycle taxi driver named Affan Kurniawan (21) died after being run over by a tactical Brimob Police vehicle on Jalan Pejompongan, Central Jakarta.

The incident occurred after the demonstrators were pushed back by the authorities from around the Senayan parliament complex. The Head of the Propam Police Division, Inspector General Abdul Karim, revealed that seven Brimob members suspected of being in a rantis vehicle are currently being investigated in the internal investigation process.

Affan's death sparked further action, including a demonstration by hundreds of people and online motorcycle taxi drivers in front of Mako Brimob, Kwitang, Central Jakarta. Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri then released the identities of seven Brimob members suspected of being involved, namely Aipda M Rohyani, Brigadier Danang, Bripda Mardin, Baraka Jana Edi, Baraka Yohanes David, Bripka Rohmat, and Kompol Cosmas Kaju.
