Postponing People's Party, Batam City Government: We Empathy To Escalation That Occurs At The National Level

The people's party scheduled by the Batam City Government, Riau Islands (Kepri) on Saturday, August 30, 2025, had to be postponed due to the escalation of demonstrations that occurred at the national level.

Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad explained that this decision had been discussed and agreed with the Batam Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda).

"The main consideration is our empathy for the escalation that occurs at the national level. We hope Batam remains safe and conducive," said Amsakar in Batam, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, August 30.

According to him, the enthusiasm of the community to attend people's parties is very high, even more than 32 thousand people who have registered.

However, in order to keep the atmosphere conducive, the peak activity of the commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia was postponed until the time to be determined in the future.

Even though the entertainment stage event was abolished, Amsakar ensured that the bazaar activities that had been prepared would still be continued and could be enjoyed by the community.

He also said that Forkopimda would conduct a direct review to ensure the implementation of the bazaar went smoothly without causing large crowds.

"The bazaar continues, but stage activities are eliminated and we also avoid excessive crowds," said Amsakar.

The government has also alerted officers at the location to provide information to the public who are already present to understand the reasons for the cancellation of the event.

Regarding the activity budget, Amsakar explained that the people's party event involved the participation of various parties.

"Nominal this activity mostly comes from the APBD and other 'stakeholders' participation," he said.

Amsakar also expressed his appreciation to the Batam people who have shown concern to maintain city security.

"Thank you to the people who have the same concern to keep Batam conducive. This is our shared responsibility to make Batam even better," he said.
