The August 25 Demo In The House Of Representatives Ends In Chaos, Cak Imin: Becomes A Lesson For All Of Us

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) responded to the August 25 demonstration which was held in front of the DPR building and ended in chaos.

Cak Imin views yesterday's demonstrations as a lesson for DPR members to improve their performance for the sake of the community.

"Yes, always so the political dynamics. I hope it will also be a lesson for all of us, especially the members of the Council to really improve their performance productively so that the aspirations of the community are channeled properly," said Cak Imin at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday, August 26.

One of the triggers for this August 25 demonstration is the polemic of salaries and allowances for DPR members, which can reach a total of Rp. 100 million per month or Rp. 3 million per day.

Reflecting on this, the General Chairperson of the National Awakening Party (PKB) advised lawmakers to be wiser in carrying out the government's budget oversight function.

"Yes, the DPR has the authority, budgeting makes the budget, of course, you have to be smart in absorbing so as not to make jealousy," he said.

The invitation for a demonstration in front of the DPR building on Monday, August 25, has recently gone viral on social media.

It was not clear at the beginning of today's mass action calls. However, an invitation for a demonstration arose after the issue of salaries and allowances for members of the DPR became a sharp public spotlight.

Furthermore, on Monday, a number of people gathered in front of the DPR building. Around 1,250 personnel were deployed in the scheme to secure the demonstration activities.

Shortly after the demonstrators gathered, they were pushed back by the police at around 13.00 WIB. The crowd that was pushed back slowly while occasionally involved in friction by the army.

As a result of the dispersal of the mass action in front of the DPR building by the joint apparatus repressively, the masses scattered to residential areas in Tanah Abang.

The situation around the location is getting hotter. The Jalan Pejompongan to Jalan Purification Raya was completely paralyzed due to clashes between the masses and officers that occurred until the evening.
