Bahlil Instructs Golkar To Add DPR Seats In The 2029 Election

PALU - General Chairperson of the Golkar Party Bahlil Lahadalia instructed his party to increase seat acquisition in the Indonesian House of Representatives in the upcoming 2029 General Election (Pemilu).

"Now we have to increase the 102 seats in the DPR RI, so we have to increase it to more than 102. How much? That's another question," said Bahlil when opening the Golkar Regional Conference (Musda) Central Sulawesi in Palu, Antara, Sunday, August 24.

According to Bahlil, the main indicator of the performance of a party chairman can be seen from the ability to add parliamentary seats. In the post-reforming history of Golkar, only two general chairmen succeeded in doing so, namely Akbar Tanjung in the 2004 General Election and Airlangga Hartarto in the 2024 General Election.

"If the general chairman of the party, the chair goes down, yes, I'm sorry. His achievements are not good. And if that happens, I also have to know myself," he said.

Bahlil emphasized that the success of party leaders must be recognized. To increase seat acquisition, Golkar must be creative as a government political instrument. "

"Welfare, equitable distribution, realizing basic laws and Pancasila as an important part of our struggle," he said.

Bahlil also gave a special note for the leadership of the Central Sulawesi Golkar Chair, M Arus Abdul Karim. In the 2024 election, Central Sulawesi Golkar managed to deliver two of its cadres to the Indonesian House of Representatives as well as nine cadres to become regional heads and deputy regional heads in 13 districts/cities.

For this achievement, Bahlil gave discretion so that the current leads Golkar, Central Sulawesi for the third period of the 2025-2030 term. However, he advised, the consequence of the decision was an increase in the number of seats in the district/city, provincial and central DPRDs.

"Golkar ini partai lama. Kita enggak ada untungnya menang tetapi kursi turun. Enggak penting menang, yang penting kursi naik," kata Bahlil menegaskan.

"Golkar is an old party. We have no advantage in winning but the seats have dropped. It's not important to win, the important thing is the seats go up," Bahlil emphasized.
