Bribery Of Ronald Tannur's Free Verdict, Former Chair Of The Surabaya District Court Sentenced To 7 Years

JAKARTA - The former chairman of the Surabaya District Court, Rudi Suparmono, was found guilty in a bribery case related to Gregorius Ronald Tannur's acquittal. Thus, sentenced or sentenced to seven years in prison.

"The defendant was sentenced to 7 years in prison," said Judge Iwan Irawan reading the verdict at the trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Friday, August 22.

In addition to the fine, Rudi Suparmono was also sentenced to a fine of Rp. 750 million. If it is not paid, it will be replaced with imprisonment for 6 months

The verdict or decision given by the panel of judges seemed to agree with the Public Prosecutor (JPU). This is because at the previous trial the prosecutor also charged Rudi Suparmono with a similar sentence.

In deciding, the panel of judges had burdensome considerations, some of which Rudi Suparmono's actions had damaged the principle of judge independence and had received gratuities repeatedly.

"The defendant Rudi Suparmono's actions received repeated gratuities in large quantities, Defendant Rudi Suparmono was a judge at the Corruption Court who should have set an example and role model for the community," said the judge.

"The actions of the defendant Rudi Suparmono have tarnished the trust of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia and the judiciary under him as well as judges, as well as court officials in the community," he continued.

Meanwhile, for mitigating considerations, Rudi Suparmono is considered to have served the state for decades.

"The situation is mitigating, the defendant has never been convicted, the defendant has served for 33 years," said the judge.

Rudi Suparmono was previously charged with receiving gratuities in accompaniment of Gregorius Ronald Tannur's acquittal. The value reaches 43 thousand Singapore dollars or SGD.

Gratification in the form of money received by Rudi Suparmono is said to be a gift from Lisa Rachmat. The goal is that the defendant, who was then the Head of the Surabaya District Court, appoints the panel of judges in the Ronald Tannur case according to his wishes.

Not only that, Rudi was also charged with accepting bribes with a total conversion of Rp. 21,141,956,000 (billion), of which investigators found the money while searching Rudi's house with Rupiah currency denominations of more than Rp. 1.7 billion, USD 383,000 foreign currency and SGD 1,099,681.
