Presidential Directive Response, DPR Encourages The Establishment Of Cyber Command TNI

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission I DPR RI Sukamta, proposed the formation of the Cyber Command of the TNI and the National Food Defense Command as a concrete step to strengthen national defense in strategic sectors.

This was said by Sukamta to welcome President Prabowo Subianto's direction in his State Speech on the State of the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia which emphasized the acceleration of technological-based defense modernization and strengthening of the cyber defense system.

According to Sukamta, this step is in line with national strategic needs, particularly in responding to the increasingly complex security dynamics of the Indo-Pacific region, including conflicts in the South China Sea and the rivalry between the United States and China.

"Indonesia must immediately strengthen national shallowness through cyber defenses that are integrated with modern defense systems. The challenges in the multipolar era are not only conventional attacks, but also threats in cyberspace that can weaken the nation's sovereignty," Sukamta told reporters, Thursday, August 21.

The PKS legislator also considered that President Prabowo's steps were correct because Indonesia's defense diplomacy needed to be carried out in a smart and balanced manner, while still prioritizing the principles of national independence.

"Strategic steps, the government will immediately set up a 2045 Defense Grand Design covering four main dimensions: food, energy, cyber, and maritime. In addition, the development of the national defense industry must be expanded through partnerships with strategic countries such as South Korea, Turkey, and a number of European countries," said Sukamta.

He hopes that Indonesia can take an active role in facing global dynamics. Moreover, according to him, today's global challenges are increasingly complex.

"The defense consolidation is strong and adaptive to global dynamics, Indonesia is not only able to maintain sovereignty, but also plays an active role as a balancer in the geopolitical regulations of the Indo-Pacific," said Sukamta.

As is known, President Prabowo said the integrity of the territory of Indonesia and the strength of the state are the main pillars of national sovereignty. He also explained the strategic plan to strengthen Indonesia's defense in the annual session of the MPR RI at the Nusantara Building, Parliamentary Complex of the DPR RI, Friday, August 15.

Prabowo said he would modernize defense equipment, strengthen reserve components, empower national strategic industries, to improve the welfare of TNI soldiers.

In the 2026 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget Draft (RAPBN), the government allocated a total budget for 102 k/l worth IDR 1,498.2 trillion. The Ministry of Defense occupies the second position with a total budget of IDR 185 trillion.
